للمرة الأولى منذ بدء توزيع جوائز الـ "MTV" في العام 1992، سيُكرّم التلفزيون في حفل هذه السنة حيث تمّ تسمية الحفل بحفل توزيع جوائز الـ "MTV and TV"
بالإضافة إلى الفئات التي اعتدنا وجودها في السنوات الماضية مثل فيلم العام وأفضل قبلة وأفضل أداء كوميدي، فإنه تم إضافة فئات جديدة إلى الحفل مثل: أفضل أداء مسرحيّ وأفضل مقدّم وأفضل قصة أمريكيّة وأفضل منافسة في البرامج الواقعيّة وأكثر مشهد مؤثّر وأكثر ما لاقى رواجاً.
وقال رئيس حفل توزيع جوائز الـ MTV كريس مكارثيChris McCarthy: " إننا نعيش في العصر الذهبي من جهة الأدء والمضمون وابتكار الشخصيات بغضّ النظر إذا كنت تشاهدها على التلفزيون أو المسرح. وستحتفل جوائز الـ"MTV and Tv" في هذا العام بأكثر الأفلام والمسلسلات الكوميدية والواعدة والجريئة".
وسيقدّم الحفل الممثّل آدم ديفاين Adam DeVine، وهو أيضاً مرشّح عن فئة أفضل أداء كوميدي عن عمله في سلسلة " Comedy Central " .
ومع العلم أنه في الأعوام الماضية كانت العروض مسجلة إلا أنه هذا العام ستُبثّ مباشرةً على الهواء من مسرح "Shrine Auditorium" في مدينة لوس أنجلوس الأمريكيّة.
وسيتضمّن الحفل عروضاً لكلٍّ من بيتبول Pitbull وجاي بالفين J. Balvin وكاميلا كابيلو Camila Cabello وبيغ شاون Big Sean ونواه سايرس Noah Cyrus.
